PIABC Level 3 Diploma in Polymer Processing
The PIABC Level 3 Diploma in Polymer Operations (QN: 603/2403/X) is a nationally recognised qualification that has been designed to provide learners working in the polymer processing and related sectors with the industry specific knowledge and skills appropriate for the day-to-day activities of the polymer processing environment.
This is appropriate for those wanting to enhance their employment and progression opportunities in the polymer processing and related sectors, and there are two broad target groups:
- People within the polymer processing industry who want to extend their knowledge and skills to gain a recognised qualification.
- People within the polymer processing industry who want to operate more professionally and effectively.
Due to the diverse nature of the polymer processing industry, it is difficult to define the target groups in terms of precise job functions. Typically, learners are likely to be in positions were they are responsible for functions such as setting up and troubleshooting a new product or process, including: process/condition setter, production technician, process team leader, product development technician, production/technical manager, polymer engineer or process trouble-shooter.
Although there are no specific entry qualifications for this qualification, it is expected that learners will already have been working in a polymer processing environment for 3 to 9 months before embarking on their studies.
The structure of the qualification allows learners to develop knowledge of the fundamental principles of polymer processing through six mandatory units, and then specialise in one of five pathways relating to thermoplastic extrusion, injection moulding, preform blow moulding, parison blow moulding and thermoplastic materials processing.
This qualification is assessed through a combination of assignments and observations which are set, marked and internally quality assured by the training centre and externally moderated by PIABC.
